Local Search

This is the next big thing on the Internet. Every day there are more listings, and the information on it is becoming more relevant and useful. Whey would anyone bother looking in the yellow pages, when they can just type their request into Google?
If you supply goods or services to your local market, you absolutely need to be at or near the top for the right keywords and location. You must claim your spot before your competitor gets it.

Yellow Pages and Yell.com are declining
Here is some data I got from Google trends for searches in England over the last six years. You can go to http://www.google.com/trends and perform it yourself. Takes five minutes.

I interpret this as follows: As long ago as 2004, people started switching to the online yellow pages, yell.com which peaked about 2007, and since then this is reducing too, as people are switching to Google.
The trend will continue.
Sooner or later, it makes sense to focus on dominating Google, or you will lose out to your competitors who are doing this.
